Anesthesia Specialists of Bethlehem (ASB) is the Lehigh Valley’s premier, physician-led private anesthesia practice, with more than 30 years of long-term stability and excellence in delivering high-quality perioperative care. Due to continued growth within St. Luke’s University Health Network, we are seeking a full-time, partnership-track anesthesiologist with fellowship training in cardiac anesthesiology to join our expanding practice.

ASB is comprised of 83 anesthesiologists and 168 CRNAs, providing comprehensive anesthesia services across a large, integrated hospital network.

St. Luke’s University Health Network has experienced significant growth over the past decade, with multiple new campuses opened and additional expansion currently underway. ASB provides anesthesia coverage across 13 inpatient hospitals and 3 ambulatory surgery centers.

Key facilities include:

St. Luke’s University Hospital – Bethlehem Campus: Level I Trauma Center and primary inpatient facility
St. Luke’s Anderson Campus: Level II Trauma Center, home to the Mother and Baby Pavilion (opened January 2020), performing approximately 3,500 deliveries annually

ASB offers a comprehensive cardiac anesthesia practice at the Bethlehem Campus, excluding heart transplantation. The program includes:

Routine coronary bypass and valve surgery
Complex and emergent aortic surgery
Left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation
Minimally invasive and structural heart procedures, including TAVR and MitraClip

With four cardiac surgeons, annual case volume is projected to reach approximately 850 cases in the coming year. The cardiac anesthesia team currently consists of six full-time fellowship-trained cardiac anesthesiologists who provide direct (non-supervisory) care for cardiac surgical cases approximately 1.5–2 days per week, with remaining clinical time spent within the general anesthesiology pool.

Beyond cardiac anesthesia, ASB maintains a broad and diverse case mix, including orthopedics, thoracic surgery, neurosurgery, interventional radiology, urology, gynecology, ENT, vascular, and general surgery.

The practice provides care for routine pediatric cases, with a dedicated fellowship-trained pediatric anesthesia team managing more complex pediatric cases. A team of intensivists provides ICU care at the majority of ASB-covered sites.

ASB is deeply committed to the Perioperative Surgical Home model. Our physicians lead:

ERAS protocols across nearly all surgical specialties

Physician leadership is central to the culture of the practice. ASB anesthesiologists hold key leadership roles across the health system, including Vice President of Medical Affairs positions, as well as leadership roles in subspecialty programs and clinical research initiatives.

Call Structure:

First and second call average approximately four calls per month
First call: Overnight once every 14 days
Weekdays: 3–4 pm to 7 am
Second call: Once every 14 days
Regular workday followed by home backup coverage after OR completion (around 7 pm)
Post-call day off following both first and second call
Weekend call: 24 hours, 7am-7am, approximate 6-7 times per year
CRNAs are on call at all campuses
Optional voluntary call opportunities at smaller campuses for additional compensation

The average total annual compensation package is approximately $655,000, including:

$501,000 base salary
Approximately $80,000 from cardiac and voluntary call opportunities
$70,000 employer-funded 401(k) contribution
$3,000 CME allowance
$1,650 employer-funded HRA
